Dear Kim,
As a recently divorced woman I am now in charge of financial matters, which my former partner used to manage. I know (or have been told) that stocks are a great form of investing, and I would like to get a better return on my money than my current Certificates of Deposit. However, all I know next to nothing about stocks, other than they go up and sometimes crash, so I am hesitant of investing in them. Can you help me manage my fear about stocks?
Suddenly In Charge
Dear Suddenly In Charge,
Your fear is not an uncommon one. The best way I know to manage that fear is with education. Understanding how different types of investments work and knowing the appropriate time frames for each will help alleviate that fear.
Look at the liquid assets (CDs) you have and understand the time frame in which each portion of those assets will be used. If you spend time learning how each type of asset behaves, you will then be able to determine the appropriate mix of assets that will work best for you.
I teach a class about all things finance and would love to teach you and some of your friends. We cover all the bases, from what is an asset, to what is debt, insurance, estate planning, retirement planning, etc. It’s a 6 session class and very easy to understand, even if you don’t have any prior knowledge. Please let me know if you’d be interested in taking it, or use this link to schedule it, https://yourplacetoflourish.com/financial-education-classes/
I wish you the best as you embark on this new journey. There is great power that comes with knowledge and understanding, and as you take control of your new life you can also take control of your finance.
Kim
